WINEMAKER NOTES Located on Merritt Island, very close to the home of Bogle Vineyards & Winery, is the Quick Ranch. This 30 acre parcel of Petite Sirah, planted in 1995, has again produced the fruit for Bogle’s exceptionally rich and jammy, ruby-style Petite Sirah Port. Selected rows of these vines were not harvested with the rest, allowing the grapes to ripen to 26 degrees brix before being selectively hand-picked on October 24, 2006. At 12 degrees brix, fortification occurred and fermentation was halted. The result is a richer and darker Petite Sirah Port with an alcohol of 19.5% and a residual sugar of 9.0%. To age and gain maturity, the port was then kept in neutral French and American oak barrels for 18 months. This year’s vintage displays the succulent aromas of vine-ripened boysenberries and summer blackberries mingling with touches of pipe tobacco and warm spice. The voluptuous finish is reminiscent of a warm berry crisp, fresh from the oven.
