OCTOBER 2017

Happy Fall, ya’ll!

As Warren Bogle says, “Farming is unpredictable and you have to roll with the punches.” And while Mother Nature hasn’t landed a right cross, she’s stretching out the harvest and extending the season with the cooler temps that we are all enjoying here in Northern California. With warmer days forecasted, however, we look forward to bringing in all our red grapes in the next three to four weeks.

Cheers,
The Bogle Family & Staff

Bogle introduces its first Phantom Chardonnay along with its Phantom Red

THE PHANTOM RETURNS

In the dark recesses of the cellar, you sense a presence, hear footsteps. Why is it these things always happen when you are alone? In the shadows, a glimpse of muddy boots and old blue jeans…the lurking legacies of hard work and determination left by those who have come before you.

For over 20 vintages, the Phantom has haunted wine lovers with its unique blend of rich berry and fierce spice. Every fall it makes an appearance…only to be gone again before the new year begins. But this year, Phantom doesn’t come alone.

The Bogle family is proud to release the very first vintage of Phantom Chardonnay. From the finest Chardonnay vineyards in Clarksburg, we hand-selected fruit with complexity and concentration. Barrel-fermented in brand new French oak, the wine is hand-stirred twice each month, creating a luscious and succulent mouthfeel and velvety finish. Layers of green apple transform on the palate, while the French oak whispers sweet notes of vanilla and melted caramel on the finish.

Phantom Red Blend appears…and doesn’t disappoint. Wild berries, black pepper, and toasted spice come together to create a singular apparition. Selected from our finest vineyards of Petite Sirah, Old Vine Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this wine will disappear as quickly as it has arrived.

Seek out the Phantom and bring it home, before it disappears yet again. Both are available at retailers and fine wine shops across the country, as well as our tasting room in Clarksburg for a limited time.

Bogle is 2017 Wine Enthusiast Winery of the Year

WINE ENTHUSIAST NAMES BOGLE “WINERY OF THE YEAR” FINALIST

We are thrilled to announce that Wine Enthusiast Magazine has named Bogle Vineyards as one of the finalists for the 2017 Wine Star Award for American Winery of the Year. Each year, Wine Enthusiast Magazine honors companies and individuals for notably driving trends and creating impact throughout the wine, spirits and beer industry.

“This year’s Wine Star Award nominees for American Winery of the Year encompass a diverse group of wineries, in both well-known and up-and-coming regions,” Strum says. “Bogle Vineyards has established itself as a reliable producer of great value wines, and help ensure Sacramento Valley’s Yolo County is a region to pay attention to.”

Warren Bogle first planted wine grapes in Clarksburg nearly 50 years ago and in 1978 began bottling under the Bogle label. Today, his grandchildren, the 3rd generation, manage the day-to-day winery operations and know their grandfather could never have imagined such an honor all those years ago.

“We are humbled to be recognized as one of the top wineries in the country,” said Vice President, Ryan Bogle. “Through the great support of our fans and trade partners, we have been grateful to craft high-quality wines and offer them at affordable prices to wine consumers around the world.”

Other nominees in the category include Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, Daou Vineyards & Winery, Duckhorn Wine Company and L’Ecole No 41. To be nominated with such illustrious industry leaders has been the greatest honor.

Winners will be announced in the special “Best of Year” Wine Star Awards December issue, and the honorees will be presented their Wine Star Award trophies at a black-tie gala awards dinner on Monday, January 29, 2018 in Miami, Florida.

Tigerfish A Memoir by Author Hoang Chi Truong

TIGERFISH: A MEMOIR
Saturday, October 14th, 6pm-9pm

The Bogle Family met Hoang Chi Truong when her husband Chris Smith was hired as one of the first employees at Bogle Winery in 1992. But to us, she was just known as “Chi”. What an honor to learn, even 25 years later, what a remarkable story she has to tell.

It is a pleasure to host Chi as she shares her journey of strength and perseverance during the Vietnam War and her family’s traumatic exodus from Vietnam. In today’s climate, we welcome Chi as she talks about her family’s experience as refugees in this country and their struggle to assimilate into a new culture.

With the conflict in Vietnam returning to the media forefront with a popular PBS documentary, Chi’s experience was recently the subject of a feature in the Sacramento Bee, written by Stephen Magagnini.  After years of writing her story for her children, Chi published the book to call attention to the plight of millions of refugees worldwide, especially the estimated 5 million Syrian refugees who escaped that country’s ongoing civil war. “I’m very sensitive to any form of oppression,” she tells the Bee. To read the entire article, click here.

Chi has also been featured on PBS’ Studio Sacramento, which can be viewed here.

Come join us as Chi talks about her experience that most of us could never possibly imagine and read excerpts from her book. Timely and memorable, we are pleased to host this event which will include:

  • Book reading and signing by Hoang Chi
  • Wine tasting and small bites
  • A question and answer session, as well as time to chat with Hoang Chi.

This event is free to adults 21 and over.  Please register here.

Books will be available the night of the event, however, Chi encourages you to purchase your books ahead of time at Amazon.com.
