SEPTEMBER 2017
Hello folks!
With harvest in full swing down here on the ranch, it is hard to believe there is time for anything else! But September is a popular time for events and tastings, as well as a lovely time to visit our tasting room here in Clarksburg.  Perhaps you can sneak in a visit soon? We certainly hope so!

Cheers,

The Bogle Family & Staff

Catch Bogle Winery at Sacramento's Farm-To-Fork Festivities

AMERICA’S FARM-TO-FORK CAPITAL

As a 6th generation farming family, we Bogle’s have grown a multitude of different crops right here in the Clarksburg area for nearly 150 years. Just 17 miles from the State Capitol, 0ur family has grown peaches, pears, cherries, celery seed, alfalfa, seed corn, safflower, beans…and now wine grapes. As just one of the families that farms this fertile region, it is easy to see what makes Sacramento America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital. Long before it had a name, knowing your local food grower was a way of life here. Today, the Farm-to-Fork program showcases farms, restaurants and others who champion sustainable practices and quality produce.  Bogle is proud to be a part of the program.

This month, there are several opportunities to engage with the folks who make your wine and grow your food here in the Sacramento region.  You’ll find us at the following…

LEGENDS OF WINE
Thursday, Sept 14th, 6-9pm
Celebrate the best wines of our region as selected by wine legends Darrell Corti and David Berkley, paired with delicious local foods. Find Ryan Bogle, who will pour you a glass, then watch the sun set behind Tower Bridge.

Bogle Vineyards and Winery 2017 Harvest Update

2017 HARVEST UPDATE

We went right to the “boots on the ground” to find out how harvest is coming along this season. It wasn’t easy, but we caught up with President and Vineyard Manager, Warren Bogle and Director of Winegrowing Chris Smith to ask, “how’s it going out there?” After a wet spring, mild early summer, and recent excessive heat, the vines have been through a lot,” says Warren, who manages all 1,600 of our estate vineyards.

“But now that harvest is in full swing, the white varietals will wrap up by the middle of next week. Then we will start picking our reds: Merlot, followed by Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon.”

Chris, who manages the vineyards that Bogle sources across Northern California, echoes Warren’s sentiment. “High heat in the last week of August was probably this year’s biggest challenge.” Although Chris believes it doesn’t seem to have had a negative impact.

“Crop size appears to be slightly below average, with very good quality in the fruit,” claims Chris. “We are 20% through harvest and picking all varietals with a full schedule ahead of us. Couldn’t ask for more!”
